Providence Teacher in Spokane, Washington


Providence is calling a Secondary Teacher ( Hospital Administration , Days, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

In this position you will:

  • Provide educational expertise in the hospital for 9-12th grade students, including curriculum planning for Math, ELA, Science, and Social Studies. Will develop hospital curriculum resources to have on-hand for students without available materials.

  • Provide expertise and guidance in GED program for students unable to participate in the traditional high school experience.

  • Display a thorough understanding of local school district processes for special education programs, truancy, and other points that the medically fragile patient/student interacts with in the school system.

  • Read and interpret documents such as Individual Education Plans, 504 plans, behavior plans, and lesson plans from the child’s home school, and participates in transition planning for back to school when the teacher’s knowledge of the child is needed.

  • Implement service plan as developed in partnership with school liaison.

  • Guide hospital-school volunteers in identifying patients to serve, and ideas/materials to utilize to meet educational goals.

  • Assist in strategic planning for growth and development of the Hospital School Program.

  • Participate in activities that promote professional development for the purpose of using clinical and educational research to enhance services.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in job related field

  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate required

  • Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation are required.

  • Job related experience in specialized field.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education

  • Endorsements in Special Education and/or English Language Learner (ELL)

  • 5 years of Teaching experience

  • Experience in a traditional classroom setting as well as an alternative learning environment.

  • Experience working with children with medical issues, disabilities, and mental health diagnoses.
