Providence is calling a Registered Nurse (RN) (Surgical Services, Evening Shift, 1.0 FTE, Full Time) to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children's Hospital in Spokane, Washington. We are seeking Registered Nurses who are interested in providing comprehensive nursing care for patients in the Operating room, practices in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the state of employment, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the ANA scope and standards of practice. Our comprehensive 6-month transition into practice (TIP) includes online modules, classroom learning, clinical simulation, skills development, and unit orientation to provide a solid foundation for successful transition as an Operating Room Registered nurse. In this position you will:

  • Act as a patient advocate during times of patient vulnerability while synthesizing knowledge of

  • Surgical anatomy

  • Patient physiologic alterations and consequences

  • Intraoperative risk factors

  • And potential for and prevention of patient injury

  • And anticipating the needs of the patient and surgical team

  • Utilization of high reliability tools

Working with a preceptor and assuming increasing responsibility during the transition into practice, the RN (Registered Nurse) is accountable for:

  • Coordinating safe, compassionate, therapeutic, evidence-based quality care to patients and significant others, based on individual physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, and appropriate care strategies throughout the lifespan.

  • Performing assessments to identify the actual or potential problems, needs and health status considerations through an appraisal of data related to the patient as an individual

  • Reviewing the medical record, validating important findings, collaborating with the patient, and analyzing, interpreting, and prioritizing information

  • Formulating nursing diagnoses unique to the patient and human response patterns guide the development of a nursing diagnosis

  • Developing measurable and attainable outcomes and goals through collaboration with the patient, patient’s support system and other health care providers

  • Establishing and prioritizing a working set of interventions for the patient’s actual problems, needs and health status.

  • Implementation of interventions in a systematic order or priority

  • Evaluating the effectiveness of the plan of care as expected outcomes and goals are achieved.

  • Reformulating plans and implementing new interventions as necessary

  • Documenting throughout the entire nursing process and assure comprehensive and thorough handoffs from unit to unit.

  • The operating room is a fast-paced environment which requires 24/7 response to meet patient needs through specific staffing requirements:

  • On-call is required for all positions; a 30 minute response time is required.

  • Call assignments differ and are designated by each area of specialty

  • Call includes nights, weekends, and holidays

  • Shift rotation may be required based on the number of years in the WSNA bargaining unit


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Nursing degree/diploma required upon hire

  • All Registered Nurses without a Bachelor's of Nursing (BSN) degree or higher must obtain a BSN within 3 years of hire. RNs with 20 years of RN experience will not be required to obtain a BSN

  • Unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in state(s) of hire, and wherever care is delivered. If RN holds a multistate license through the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), the RN must adhere to the requirements of licensure in the new state(s) of hire

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers within 30 days of hire

  • 12 months nursing experience but new to specialty of hire

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing upon hire

  • National certification in area of specialization
