Providence Health & Services Professional Development Specialist *Day Shift* in Spokane, Washington


Providence is calling a Professional Development Specialist ( Phc Professional Development, Day Shift, 0.9 FTE, 36 hours per week) to Providence Health Care Region in Spokane, Washington. In this position you will:

  • The Department of Professional Development aligns its performance expectations with the Association for Nursing Professional Development Standards of Professional Practice which describes roles and competencies for NPD Specialists

  • The Professional Development Specialist Role is primarily one of educational consultant, interacting with and serving caregivers across the organization about matters related to clinical education, retention, and engagement. Within the broad scope of this educational consulting role, the Professional Development Specialist is expected to serve as an educator/learning facilitator, teaching individuals and groups in a variety of settings including classrooms, online, and in simulation-based activities. The PDS role also includes serving as a team and project leader, a mentor, a change agent, and a champion for quality improvement and evidence-based practice

  • Professional Development Specialists demonstrate competency in a variety of areas that support the roles described above, including:

  • Ethics

  • Education

  • Evidence-based Practice and Research

  • Quality of Nursing Professional Development Practice

  • Change Management

  • Leadership

  • Collaboration

  • Professional Practice Evaluation

  • Resource Utilization

  • Mentorship/Advancing the Profession

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field from a nationally accredited program -AND- Master's Degree from an accredited program (Note that Master’s degree must be in Nursing if Bachelor’s Degree is in another discipline)

  • Current Washington State RN License

  • National Certification in clinical specialty at time of hire

  • Professional Development Practitioner certification within two (2) years of hire

  • PDG's are expected to possess/obtain the certifications for all units in which they provide care

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

  • If new to PHC, must enroll in RQI during orientation: CICU, ICU, ACU (cardiac), Med-surg, ED, Procedural/Perianesthesia, and Perinatal

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

  • If new to PHC, must enroll in RQI during orientation: ED, Pediatrics, PICU

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification must complete within ninety (90) days of hiring if supporting: Perinatal, NICU

  • Three (3) years recent nursing experience in clinical specialty area appropriate to Professional Development Specialist (PDS) role

Preferred qualifications for this position includes:

  • Three (3) years educator or faculty role

  • Three (3) years progressive leadership roles within nursing
