Providence Health Information Specialist in Spokane Valley, Washington


Providence is calling a Health Information Specialist (Health Information Management, Days, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Home Health in Spokane Valley, Washington. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

In this position you will:

  • Perform technical reviews of clinical documentation on admissions, discharges and re-certifications for accuracy and completeness.

  • Prepare and forward certifications, orders, and other clinical documentation to the ordering physician.

  • Receive, review, and file incoming certifications, physician orders and other clinical documentation.

  • Track and follows up on outstanding certifications, physician orders, face-to-face information and other compliance specific documents.

  • Monitor incoming faxes and routes documents for inclusion in the electronic medical record.

  • Scan and index clinical documentation into patient electronic medical records. Performs audits on indexed documentation.

  • Receive, track, and respond to requests for protected health information (PHI).

  • Export patient assessment data to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and other third party vendors.

  • Prepare and send out patient and provider communications (i.e. surveys, discharge letters, medication reports, etc.).

  • Enter and verify clinical visits in the medical record.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED

  • 2 years of experience in one or a combination of the following setting:

  • Experience in a Health Information Management setting or related team setting, OR

  • Health Unit Coordinator or Medical Assistant experience, OR

  • College course work in health information management or related studies.

  • Experience using an electronic medical record (EMR).

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year of college or health information training.
