THE ROLE

Providence is calling a Chief Executive-Research to Providence St. Joseph Health in Renton, WA.

The Chief Executive-Research will be responsible for overseeing research in PSJH research centers. The Chief Executive-Research will lead efforts in integration of research across the system where advisable. Research will include basic research, translational research, clinical trials, and outcomes research. The Chief Executive-Research will oversee research administration to advance scientific wellness, genomics and personalized medicine programs and the translation of clinical research to clinical care.

The Chief Executive-Research will: work closely with the Chief Science Officer to ensure alignment of research activities, budgets and administration across PSJH; interface with clinical leadership to implement scientific wellness clinics and translate research to clinical care; identify clinical research priorities; and prioritize research resources. They will be expected to build on the strengths of the current research programs, set priorities for the future and support the translational and clinical research efforts that take advantage of the PSJH System.

In this position you will:

  • Advance the creation within PSJH of an integrated scientific wellness, clinical research and genomics program that is nationally recognized for breakthrough advances

  • Play a key role in developing strategies, programs and partnerships in collaboration with the leaders of clinical and research programs across the system to advance research and its impact on clinical care

  • Integrate budgets and research administration across PSJH to ensure alignment with PSJH strategic priorities

  • Assist the Chief Science Officer in the creation and funding of a Center for Translational Systems Medicine encompassing translational pillar projects, technology platform(s), and Scientific Wellness general and specialty clinics

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Established MD, PhD with 15 or more years of outstanding translational research and clinical experience as evidenced by significant publications in peer-reviewed literature, successful long-term peer-reviewed grant support.

  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills in research administration, prioritization, and program implementation within a large, complex organization.

  • Demonstrated history of successful collaboration and development of research and clinical partnerships.

  • Outstanding track record in successfully translating research to clinical care and of forging industry partnerships.

  • Experience in mentoring and enhancing the career development of young, intermediate and senior level investigators.
