The Surgical Technician Obstetrics is under the supervision and direction of the Family Birth Center Charge Nurse, Peri-Operative Nurse, collaborates with OR Team in providing efficient, safe, cost-effective patient care outcomes..
In this position you will:
Provide safe, efficient scrubbing technique for Cesarean Sections with or without fallopian tube legation, dilation and/or curettage of the uterus and assist Scrub with emergency Hysterectomy.
Check Physician Preference Cards (PPC) before the case. Read up on less familiar procedures and ask for help when needed. Participate in hands on demonstrations when provided and request in-service on less familiar procedures and equipment.
Attend classes/workshops to update scrub skills in various specialties. Request cases that will update current skill and ability. Share knowledge with OR team.
Facilitate the availability of supplies and properly maintained equipment and Instruments for surgical cases.
Assist in procuring supplies, equipment and instrumentation for each case as indicated by PPC.
Check PPC for accuracy before opening a room. Check integrity of instrumentation and equipment. Check integrity of Anesthesia Machines and complete Anesthesia Preparation Checklist.
Provide sterile instrumentation for surgical cases. Use Aseptic Technique in opening the room.
Check sterile indicators. Observe for breaks in technique when opening items. Check integrity of the packaging. Observe for moisture in sterile packaging.
Maintain a quiet environment during induction of anesthetic and waking the patient. Keep talking to a minimum and limit noisy handling of instruments.
Acknowledge concerns of patient while they are awake. Recognize patient anxiety and help decrease stimulation.
Insure a sterile field is set up and maintained throughout each surgical case by implementation of Aseptic Technique and Body Substance Isolation (BSI). Demonstrate utilization of proper attire, performance of surgical hand scrub, donning sterile gown and gloves, opening a sterile field, sterile draping of field, utilization of protective eyewear, proper handling of Sharps and bio-hazardous material. Perform proper sterilization and documentation procedures.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration or Washington State Licensed Practical Nurse
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) certified
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Graduate of a Licensed Practical Nurse Program
Trained as a surgical Technician
