Providence St. Joseph Health is calling for a Senior Director, Business Development in Olympia, Washington

The Senior Director is responsible for leading Business Development for Southwest Washington. In addition, this role is accountable for Population Health/Accountable Care, Oncology Services and selected service lines.

In addition, specific focus areas will include:

  • Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership team, working in partnership with team members on the development and implementation of an integrated delivery system throughout the Southwest Washington service area.

  • Accountable for coordination of business development, market optimization and service line priorities in areas assigned.

  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills.

  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills and authenticity of presence.

  • Develop and foster effective collaboration between departments, programs & services, medical staff and other affiliated services to ensure an integrated approach to care.

  • Interface effectively with the Regional and System entities as necessary.

  • Participates actively in strategic planning and budgetary formation in conjunction with the senior leadership team to ensure strong and focused operational and financial management of the service area. Develop and implement action plans to ensure the organization achieves its annual budget objectives.

  • Partners with others to deliver the best care at the lowest costs. Work with core leaders, serving as a resource to help reduce costs, enhance revenues, and achieve goals and objectives. Operate within approved budget; control charges, expenses, and monthly variances. Optimize use of financial resources.

  • Meets regularly with operational partners to assure clinical and business alignment.

  • Ensures and promotes clinical innovation.

  • Implement standards of service for care, monitors quality performance, and intervenes as appropriate to take corrective action as needed. Ensures accreditation and regulatory guidelines are met.

  • Assists with operations related to compliance preparedness and audit processes as indicated.

  • Demonstrates positive interactions with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Serve as a transformational leader. Supports a culture of high caregiver morale and positive relationships with both caregivers and core leaders to enhance productivity and the quality of work life.

  • Provide leadership and work collaboratively with core leaders and caregivers to evaluate new opportunities and to develop programs and services that improve the organizations market position and meet community needs.

  • Develop and manage diverse and effective teams to achieve results. Ensures that continuous improvement occurs on the team and within the organization. Oversee major workforce and resource decisions for the departments and service lines assigned.

  • Develop new business strategies to enhance overall market share and improve overall performance. Develop and/or enhance programs and services responsive to patient, physician, and community needs.

  • Demonstrates excellence in communication skills.

  • Constantly seeks out opportunities to develop leadership skills, knowledge and behaviors.

  • Mentors and coaches core leaders to enable their successful professional development.

  • Is a champion for building a high reliability culture.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Must hold a Masters Degree in Health Administration, MBA, or Masters in a related field

  • Five years general healthcare experience including three years in a leadership capacity related to healthcare delivery

About the Ministry you will serve:

The Southwest Washington Service Area (SW) serves five counties through an affiliated network of health care services and ministries to include Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Providence Centralia Hospital, and Providence Medical Group (PMG). It includes an acclaimed University of Washington-affiliated family medicine residency program, which provides innovation and strong primary care support. PMG comprises 250 primary care, specialty care, sub-specialty, and hospital-based medical providers. The 40 clinics are located in Olympia, Lacey, Centralia, Chehalis, Rochester, Aberdeen, Shelton, and Yelm. With an emphasis on the medical home model, the 4,000 caregivers in the SW strive to create a distinctive health care experience for each patient – one focused on trust, respect, communication and teamwork. All of the Providence Medical Group primary care clinics are recognized Level III Patient Centered Medical Homes by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

Providence St. Peter Hospital is a fully accredited, 390-bed acute and outpatient care tertiary facility offering comprehensive medical, surgical and behavioral health services and has been one of three, Magnet accredited hospitals in Washington State since 2010. It serves as a regional referral center. Founded in 1887 by the Sisters of Providence, it is the largest hospital in a five-county area that has a population of about 500,000, with half living in the greater Olympia/Thurston County area and the rest in four surrounding rural counties. Major service lines include heart, cancer, orthopedics and neurosciences. The hospital has a busy emergency/trauma center, a large birth center, a pediatrics unit (including a special-care nursery), and critical care, telemetry and medical surgical units. In 2015, a da Vinci minimally invasive surgical robot was added. The campus includes a freestanding inpatient psychiatry unit and a separate facility for inpatient and outpatient physical rehabilitation and outpatient surgery. The Providence St. Peter Sexual Assault Clinic and Child Maltreatment Center provides medical services and additional support for adults and children harmed by sexual or physical abuse. Other campus features include medical office buildings, elderly housing, hotel accommodations for patients’ families and an extended-care facility.

Providence Centralia Hospital is a fully accredited 128 bed

acute and outpatient community hospital offering medical, surgical, obstetric

and emergency services. Providence Centralia Hospital nursing staff has

recently earned the Pathways to Excellence recognition.
