The Patient Safety Consultant RN is responsible for the implementation of the internal Patient Safety program of improved quality outcomes and improved control of loss prevention according to the guidelines of federal, state and regional legal requirements. Promotes and maintains cooperative relationships with Hospital Administrative personnel relative to incident reports pertinent and potential liability claims. Works in conjunction with legal counsel to investigate potential lawsuits, obtain requested information, and participate as needed in litigation proceedings.
In this position you will:
Improve quality outcomes and improved control of loss prevention, complying with all existing Washington Statues, Rules of the Department of Insurance and any other appropriate guidelines relating to medical malpractice, the Healthcare industry and civil law.
Receives referrals and intervenes with patient and/or family to resolve a grievance vs Hospital and/or personnel in order to eliminate or diminish potential liability claim.
Presents educational material to all employees upon orientation, at yearly educational updates, and additionally requested in order to satisfy continuing education requirements related to quality, risk, accreditation, and patient safety.
Review statistical analysis of the frequency and causes of general categories and specific types of adverse incidents causing injury to patients and recommends appropriate measures to minimize these incidents.
Reviews and completes follow-up and investigation as needed on events in order to comply with State and Regulatory Agency mandatory reporting requirements, including but not limited to root cause analysis, failure mode effects analysis, and other methodologies as appropriate.
Provides consultation, facilitation, and skill development such as systems thinking and total quality management tools to lead and support the organizational initiatives and “best practices” for Northwest Washington Service Area.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Insurance, Risk Management, Law, Business or related field and/or Healthcare Administration or a combination of education and directly related work experience
5 years Progressively responsible professional experience, which should include a basic background in medical terminology and physiology, as well as experience with acute care medical facilities
