Providence Health & Services Emergency Department Clerk - Nursing Assistant in Colville, Washington


Providence is calling an Emergency Department Clerk - Nursing Assistant (Emergency Services, Day Shift, 0.6 FTE, 24 Hours per week) to Providence Mount Carmel Hospital, Washington. In this position you will:

  • Support the Performance Improvement process.

  • Follow and supports hospital policies. Follows the principles and requirements outlined in the Commitments and Compliance Integrity Program Employee Handbook and any other organizational or departmental materials related to compliance with laws and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors.

  • Patient-Care Positions: Considers individual needs in communication with, assessment of, and treatment of patients and staff, including ethical, cultural, psychosocial, religious, and age-specific aspects to include infant through the elderly.

  • Support patient rights and the organization’s code of ethical behavior.

  • Regular and predictable attendance is required for all positions. Failure to meet this standard can result in progressive discipline up to and including termination.

  • Transcribes and transmits doctor's orders to appropriate areas under supervision of a registered nurse, and confers with registered nurse regarding scheduling patient's activities and tests.

  • Performs clerical functions for physicians within the E.D. Clerk/Nursing Assistant sphere of responsibility.

  • Assist patients and visitors in nursing unit as needed.

  • Assist with triage.

  • Perform Patient Accounting clerical duties related to the admission, discharge and transfer of patients to another facility.

  • Assign patients to appropriate bays conferring with RN when questions arrive.

  • Keep track of where all E.D. patients are at all times.

  • Monitor visitors and patients in waiting room informing RN of any potential problems.

  • Order supplies and equipment; receives and places items in their proper storage area.

  • Confer with RN and physician keeping abreast of patient’s condition and planned disposition.

  • Coordinate the compilation of new charts, maintains current charts, and enters patient information on the charts and E.D. and Outpatient logs.

  • Assist in transportation of patients being discharged or moved to another department.

  • Schedule own breaks at appropriate time and informs RN when gone from floor.

  • Accept assignments in other departments as assigned by nursing supervisor or nurse in charge.

  • Assist in orientation of new staff to clerical/CNA duties of the unit.

  • Promote respect of each persons rights and individuality.

  • During codes runs errands, makes phone calls, monitors other patients or visitors, and acts as code recorder as required.

  • Consistently works toward social justice to balance the relationship between the powerful and the powerless, individual and community.

  • Promote competent and professional atmosphere at all times.

  • Take minutes for nursing meetings when assigned.

  • Assist the Emergency Department Manager with reports, special projects, data compilation, information gathering, and computer input.

  • Organize the Emergency Department nursing station to function smoothly.

  • Attend all required unit education and mandatory in-services.

  • Trauma Registry Clerk:

  • Under the direction and supervision of the Trauma Registry Coordinator, handles data entry and retrieval from the collector system.

  • Compile codifying data from the collector system for transmittal to the State Department of Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma Systems within the specified time line.

  • Accurately gathers Trauma Registry data. Submits data to the State Trauma Registry in a timely manner.

  • Produce reports for Trauma Q.I. Committee as requested by Trauma Coordinator.

  • Work with Trauma Coordinator to improve trauma systems.

  • Assist Trauma Coordinator in report interpretation and utilization.

  • Assist in trauma C.Q.I. as requested.

  • Data Collection:

  • The Registrar will look through ER Log monthly and identify qualifying patients using the following filters; screen and Identify all Trauma patients who are deceased, transferred to another facility or been admitted.

  • Edit list by ICD-9 code to remove all but qualifying trauma codes.

  • Check all admits for those with hospital stays 2 days or longer.

  • Data Entry:

  • Enter qualifying patients into the COLLECTOR program per WA state DOH requirements.

  • Transfer data every quarter to the WA State Dept. of Health.

  • Run reports as needed.

  • Work with the Trauma Program Manager and Medical Director to identify data issues and prepare reports.


Required qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Current Washington State Nursing Assistant Registration or Certification

Preferred qualifications:

  • Certificate of completion of state approved Nursing Assistant course

  • Previous experience as a Unit Secretary

  • Previous experience as a Nursing Assistant or able to satisfactorily complete training program
