The Respiratory Therapist II provides services to patients at Providence Centralia Hospital as prescribed by physicians in conjunction with established policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines. Responsible for the assessing the patient's respiratory status and recommending appropriate therapies. Implements therapies and evaluates patient response to therapeutic interventions. The Respiratory Therapist accepts and promotes professional development as an integral part of practice. Assesses, analyzes, customizes, coordinates and communicates the patient's plan of care and actively collaborate with other members of the health care team.

In this position you will:

  • Perform mechanical ventilation set-ups, monitoring, assessment of equipment/patient interfaces, and makes appropriate changes based on ABGs for both pediatric and adult ventilators

  • Communicate patient’s status to health care team. Collaborates with the patient, family and members of the health care team; develops, implements, and monitors an individualized plan of care which reflects a standard of care based on best practices and evidence-based medicine

  • Competent in the input and retrieval of information within the various forms of written and electronic documentation

  • Consistently demonstrates and promotes safe patient care practices: (i.e., hand-washing, positive patient identification, communication, reduction of infection risks and inclusion of patients/families concerns and access to health care team.)

  • Participate in department QI Program by collecting and/or compiling data, composing reports, and offering suggestions on ways to improve respiratory service

  • Dispense prescribed Respiratory Therapy medications and consults with staff physicians regarding orders related to Respiratory Therapy services

  • Complete continuing education for Compliance, BLS, ACLS, and PALS or NRP as required by the department’s annual competency plan for the job

  • Support and assist with orientation of new staff and students

  • Safeguard all forms (electronic, written and oral) of confidential information as it relates to patients, their families, medical staff and employees

  • Recognize the role that the cultural diversity of patients and their families, employees, medical staff, volunteers and community members play in achieving productive and positive relationships

  • Adhere to all hospital and department protocols, policies, procedures and guidelines

  • Complete initial and annual Competency Plan for assigned job and department

  • Possibly perform Lead Therapist duties as assigned

  • Willingness to train and maintain competency in department diagnostic testing procedures

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy - or- equivalent education/experience

  • Must be credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - or- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)

  • Those obtaining NBRC credentials after July 1, 2002, must provide proof of credential renewal every five (5) years

  • Maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) Certification within 90 days of hire

  • WA State Respiratory Care Practitioner License

  • Three (3) years of experience plus RRT -OR- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience and CRT
